How Long Does a THC Drink Last?

Short answer: for most people, a 10mg hemp-derived Delta-9 drink runs about four to six hours from first effects to feeling normal, with the strongest stretch somewhere in the middle. But "most people" is doing a lot of work in that sentence, so here is the fuller picture.

A typical timeline

Time after finishing What is usually happening
0–20 min Usually nothing yet. This is where people make mistakes.
20–45 min First noticeable lift for most people.
1–2 hrs Peak. If you were going to feel it strongly, this is when.
2–4 hrs Gradual taper.
4–6 hrs Back to baseline for most people.
Next morning No alcohol, so no hangover — though sleep quality can shift.

Drinks tend to run shorter than a traditional edible. A brownie has to be digested before much is absorbed, which both delays the start and stretches the tail. A dispersed liquid skips part of that.

What changes the timing

  • Food. The single biggest variable. On an empty stomach, onset is faster and the peak is sharper. After a full meal, slower and gentler.
  • Tolerance. Regular consumers often report both a lower peak and a shorter tail.
  • Body composition and metabolism. Cannabinoids are fat-soluble, so distribution differs between people.
  • Dose. A half pouch does not simply last half as long — it tends to produce a lower peak with a similar overall shape.
  • How fast you drink it. Sipping a 12 oz glass over an hour spreads the dose; drinking it in five minutes concentrates it.

"Lasts" vs "stays in your system"

These are two completely different questions and conflating them causes real problems.

How long you feel it: hours.

How long it is detectable: potentially weeks. THC metabolites are stored in fat and cleared slowly. For an infrequent consumer a urine test might come back positive for a few days; for a daily consumer it can be 30 days or more. Hair testing has a far longer window.

Hemp-derived Delta-9 is still Delta-9. If you are subject to drug testing, a compliant hemp drink can absolutely produce a positive result. Federal legality has no bearing on what a test detects. If your job tests, this category is not for you.

If it feels like too much

Uncomfortable is not the same as dangerous, and it passes. What helps: water, a snack, somewhere quiet, and knowing the clock is working in your favour. What does not help: more THC, alcohol on top, or deciding it "isn't working" at the 40-minute mark and having another.

That last one is the classic error. Give any drink a full hour before reconsidering.

Planning around it

Because the window is reasonably predictable, you can plan. A drink at 4pm is usually finished by 9 or 10pm. A drink at 9pm is still with you at midnight.

Non-negotiables: do not drive for the entire window, and do not stack with alcohol — PoolSide is 0% alcohol precisely so you are not combining the two by accident.

Getting a predictable session

Consistency comes from a measured dose. A pre-portioned pouch gives you the same 10mg every time, which is what makes the timeline above useful rather than theoretical. Both PoolSide Flavorless and PoolSide Mango carry the same 10mg, and every batch is published at lab results (COA).

If you are still deciding on a starting dose, read Is 10mg of THC a Lot? first. If you are wondering about onset specifically, we covered that separately. Otherwise, shop all PoolSide pouches whenever you are ready.
